6 Tips to Feel More Comfortable About Your Boudoir Session

If you booked your boudoir session, started picking out your lingerie and found yourself getting a solid case of cold feet, then girl, you're not alone. And, it's okay to have those feelings. I get it.

Obviously, I love boudoir sessions – it's my job after all. I think they are fun and empowering and allow you to see yourself in a way you probably haven't before. But I also recognize that the experience can also be incredibly vulnerable. Maybe even uncomfortable.

After all, these photos are intimate and sexy. And someone with a camera is seeing a side of you that you might not be completely comfortable or familiar with.

For a lot of women, having boudoir photos made is a huge leap outside their comfort zone. But it doesn't have to be as scary as it might seem.

As a seasoned boudoir photographer, I've worked with dozens of women to help them move past their fears and fully embrace the fun side of their photo shoot. In the end, almost everyone who steps in front of my camera ends up having a fabulous time. And they walk away with a new appreciation of their body and strength.

My goal is to help you feel confident, secure, and in love with who you are. And to do that, I've created a list of a few things that will help you feel comfortable and secure when you have your boudoir session.

Choosing the Right Photographer Matters

First – and probably the most important – you've really got to click with your boudoir photographer. It can't be just any Joe Schmoe off the street. The person behind the camera needs to be someone you feel connected with, that you trust and who makes you feel like a goddess.

So, do your research. Interview different photographers. Take both their work and their personality into account. And when you find someone you feel comfortable with, snag a session.

Then get to know them!

Hang out with them, and talk over the phone. Ask them questions. Start building a friendly intimacy before the shoot – that way when she's hovering over you on the bed snapping a photo of your gorgeous face, it will only feel a little weird.

If they are experienced and know what they are doing, they'll know exactly how to make you feel comfortable and put you at ease. And they'll be happy to do so.

Kaiserin Photography boudoir studio in downtown Kansas City.

Visit the Studio

Don't be afraid to ask to visit the studio and see where your boudoir photos will be taken. Just being in the room and letting your photograph walk you through the sets, the client wardrobe, and how she moves through a photo session can go a long way in easing nerves.
I promise, once you start envisioning what YOUR boudoir photography session will look like, those butterflies will likely melt away.

Plan Out the Details

Just like visiting the studio, where you get a sense of the space and how the session will go, planning out the details with your photographer can help you have a sense of control and know exactly what your boudoir session will look like.

Taking time to plan out what you want to wear, what kind of poses you'd like to incorporate, and the style you are aiming for with your photographer can help you get hyped up for your shoot. And it takes a way a lot of the unknown aspects that might cause you to feel anxious.

Plus, having all the details ironed out well before your photo session will ensure you're not left scrambling to find the right lingerie the night before your photos.

Don't Stress About Your Body or Weight

I know, I know. You probably want to lose 5-10 pounds before your boudoir session. You're determined to kick your booty into gear. That's all well and good, but listen. There's really no need to stress about your weight.

You're gorgeous exactly the way you are. Seriously.

I simply recommend that you eat smart and incorporate healthy meals and lots of water leading up to your session.

No fad diets.

No starving yourself.

That's it – just eat well, hydrate and get a bit of exercise and you're golden. You know we all feel better when we take care of our bodies in this way and these things  have lasting benefits beyond sexy boudoir photos – so it is a win-win.

As a bonus, you'll have more energy and feel better if you aren't feeling food-deprived the day of your session.

If you're worried about bloating or pimples, try avoiding sugary and salty foods and drinks a few days before. And be sure to up your water intake.

Remember, every body is a boudoir body. And every body is sexy.

Make Time for Self-Care

Make some time for yourself in the weeks leading up to your photo session. Take a nice, long bath with a glass of wine. Start using body scrubs and face masks. Have a spa day!

Take time to be appreciative of your body and try to name things you love about yourself. Daily positive self-talk and affirmations can really help you become more comfortable with your body and change your overall perception of yourself.

I challenge you to find one new thing each day that you can appreciate about yourself – then tell me how you feel the day of your shoot.

Complimentary professional hair and makeup is included in your boudoir session with Kaiserin Photography.

Get Your Hair and Makeup Done Professionally

This is included in my boudoir photography packages because I think it makes such a HUGE difference. Knowing that your hair and makeup are on point, professionally done, and sweatproof is a confidence booster.

Plus getting glammed up is FUN, and it takes off so much stress if someone else takes care of it for you. So if your boudoir photographer doesn’t offer that service, make sure you schedule your own. You won't regret it!

Remember, boudoir photography is fun. And you should have fun with it!

I promise you'll never see an unflattering photo come from my camera. The images I deliver to you will be perfectly posed to show off all your best features.
